2nd Tyne Tour win for Heather

Following on from Heather's 2004 win being the fastest lady down the grueling Tyne Tour course through Grade 4 water, she repeated her victory competing the 7 mile race distance in just over an hour and 13 mins making her the record holder at both the 7 and 13 mile distance.

Heather who is one of the staff members at our Yorkshire Outdoor Superstore was very pleased with the result, the water level was a bit lower this year as the rain had stayed away, but the dam release from Kielder resovoir made up for the shortfall. (photo above shows Heather at the start having a laugh with the other competitors)

Pedalling Pirates raise funds for Water Aid

Six crazy youths with big hearts set off today to pedal two Pelican Fiji Pedal Boats across the country pursued by a crocodile named Lawrence. Starting at the first non-tidal part of the River Avon just outside Bristol, their aim over the next two weeks is to reach the last non-tidal part of the River Thames at Richmond. Along the way they plan to raid pubs and board passing ships(?) to collect booty for "Water Air", their selected charity.

Water Aid seeks to bring fresh dringing water to remote parts of Africa. We ask that you also get behind these intrepid heros and visit their website http://www.pedallingpirates.co.uk

Most importantly the aim of the challange was to raise money for three cancer charities and so far a considerable amount has been raised with more money coming in. You can still donate on line at Donations on the Cancer Challenge website.

Congratulations to all that took part either playing, refereeing or doing one of the many tasks that kept the event running covering first aid, rescue, security, catering and organisation.
